Motivational/Inspirational Speaker – Kevin Meyers – Making a difference!

Tandem Cycle Racing

I lost my sight in a boat racing accident in 1987.  I have participated in downhill/cross country skiing, car racing, bowling, parachuting, and biking activities since then.  Recreational tandem bike rides have become my favorite sport activity.  I take pleasure in going on these rides with the added challenge to ride faster.

Kevin and Pilot at National ChampionshipI attended a tandem bike racing development camp in 2008 sponsored by the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA).  After the camp I realized what I had missed for many years…the thrill and excitement of racing!

Greg Miller, my tandem pilot, and I made the US Paralympic cycling talent pool in our first year of racing in 2009.  We hope to be invited to be on the paralympic team in 2010 to eventually participate in the 2012 Paralympics.  Greg and I are training for the opportunity to win a medal.

Without the support and encouragement of many individuals, my goals would not be possible.  I am humbled by everyone’s help and enthusiasm.  I appreciate the individual and organizational support.  My journey to be in the 2012 Paralympics would not be possible without the help of the following: Kevin behind Tandem Bike

  • Wheel and Sprocket - Dave Schneider
  • Pilot for road and track tandem race team - Bob Springer
  • Training pilots: Craig Weston, Jim Derrick
  • USABA - Pam Fernandes
  • Blind Outdoor Leisure Development (BOLD) - Loni Kagen, PJ Smith
  • Ken, Corrin & Courtney Goll
  • Dave Hemp
  • Mike Becker
  • Gretchen Meyers - mother
